There are plenty of pathways and wooded areas to explore and you can really get lost here as it’s a huge space.

5. Van Buren Municipal Park

This lovely city park is located just off of 11th and Maple Street and is an awesome place to go for an escape while not having to stray too far from the city. There’s so much to do here including a fabulous running track around the lake. There are plenty of geese in the area, so bring a bag of breadcrumbs and feel free to feed them lunch. The best of these near the city is a 17-mile out and back route that runs from the Lake trailhead to the top of Dockery’s Gap, a nearby pass through the mountains. If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, then the Ben Geren Trail, located to the south of downtown, is a great place to start. Beginning from the Zero Street Trail near Massard Creek, the trail follows the creek southeast in a semi-circular loop, before reaching its end in Ben Geren Regional Park. The trail is paved throughout most of its lake, making it a good option for cycling as well.

3. White Rock Rim Trail

If you’re hankering to explore the Ozarks, but don’t have much time to spare, then this gentle loop close to Winslow, AR is perfect. The trail loops in a gentle curve around the mountain from which it gets its name.
