4 of the Best Bike Paths and Biking Trails in and Around Fort Smith, AR

1. Springhill Park

Located just a short drive from Fort Smith, Springhill Park is one of the best-known trails in the area and the site of several annual mountain bike competitions. The 9.4-mile course is full of sharp turns, so it makes for an exciting ride. At the same time, its flat terrain is relatively easy to navigate, so it’s still great for beginners. Springhill Park offers the perfect combination of accessibility and adventure for riders of all skill levels.

2. Ben Geren Park

Ben Geren is open all year, but it’s at its best in spring when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Two-thirds of the park’s 6-mile loop is paved, so it’s great for casual riders. It also offers some offroad action for more seasoned cyclists. Those looking for more of a challenge can take a detour on routes like the Beaver Dam Trail, which features steeper grades and gravel paths. The Parker Loop is another dirt path recommended for new riders trying to get out of their comfort zone.

3. Lake Fort Smith

Lake Fort Smith is home to more than 15 miles of trails that range from easy to intermediate. Whether you’re looking to explore Arkansas’ dense forests or you just want to take a leisurely ride around the lake, they’ve got something for you. The Boston Mountain Trail is a fun ride that is highly recommended by cyclists for its interesting scenery and varied terrain. However, it is rated relatively difficult, so beginners might want to stick to the main bike paths.

4. Devil’s Den Park

Though it’s a little bit of a drive from downtown Fort Smith, Devil’s Den Park is well worth the trip. Located deep in the unspoiled wilderness of Lee Creek Valley, Devil’s Den is a mecca for mountain biking and the home of the Ozark Mountain Bike Festival. It features several world-class Monument Trails, including the scenic Fossil Flats Trail and the Devil’s Racetrack, a highly technical course that’s perfect for experienced riders in search of a thrill.
